Rosa Linn’s “Snap” is going viral

Its success on TikTok is translating into traction for the song

Seven weeks after the 2022 Grand Final, the songs of Eurovision 2022 are continuing to flourish in the wild. While ongoing successes of the likes of Kalush Orchestra, Sam Ryder, Chanel and Cornelia Jakobs are unsurprising, there’s a more unassuming entry that’s gaining momentum online currently.

When it was announced that TikTok had become the ‘Official Entertainment Partner’ of Eurovision 2022, it seemed like a logical fit. From “Arcade” and “Zitti e buoni” to “Rockefeller Street”, Eurovision is a reliable source of viral hits.

In the vein of the latter, Rosa Linn’s “Snap” has been surging up the Spotify charts, accumulating considerably more streams than it had been getting in the weeks surrounding the contest. As of June 30, the song was being streamed over 500,000 times a day.

For a song that finished in a humble 20th place in the Grand Final with 61 points, this is an incredible achievement, especially for a young up-and-coming artist from Armenia.

The power of TikTok

According to the TikTok x Eurovision newsletter, which was sent to members of the Eurovision press on May 4, Rosa’s TikTok (@rosalinnmusic) had 5k followers and 85k likes. Two months later, at the time of writing, she has 50.5k followers and 1.2 million likes. Numbers aren’t everything, but this is an impressive jump.

Much of this is seemingly driven by a sped up edit being used as a sound across the platform, which has amassed over 120k videos at the time of writing.

Of course, there’s an argument to be made that the chopping and warping of songs to fit a social media trend is an affront to the art of songwriting, but ultimately, this has resulted in the song itself gaining a global audience.

One has to wonder how the relationship between Eurovision and TikTok will continue to develop in the coming years…
