Once again, the Eurovision Song Contest is using its unique power to bring the world together like nothing else can. Just a couple of hours ago, Uganda’s Spoon Youth dance crew uploaded a video of themselves dancing to the current favourite to win this year’s contest, “TOY” by Israel’s Netta. As soon as this appeared on our Facebook feed, we knew we had to share it with you all!
TOY: Africa style!
Who are the Spoon Youth crew?
From the Namuwongo slum in the Ugandan capital city of Kampala, the Spoon Youth crew are is a youth group whose biggest passions are traditional African dancing and African street dance. Supported by the non-governmental organisation “little light Uganda”, Spoon Youth hopes that their group can create a brighter future for everyone involved in the project.
Their aim is to “fight negativity in the community and build unity among the youths in Namuwongo slums”. In addition, the group also “carries out general cleaning of the community” as well as “early pregnancy, sexual harassment, HIV & drug abuse sessions”.
You can support Spoon Youth on Patreon by clicking here where their goal is to raise enough money to be able to rent a place for their meetings and dance practice! Find out all about them by visiting their official Facebook page!
