An Xtra Happy Birthday; March 25th!

Yesterday on 24th of March four Eurovision artist celebrated their birthday. Today, however, are three female singers that are born on this day. One of these birthday ladies won the Barbara Dex awards. Dina Garipova, Debbie Scerri and Julie Zahra celebrate their birthday today.

Debbie Scerri, 49

Malta selected the Canadian born singer Debbie to be their representative in 1997. That is why she performed the song “Let Me Fly” in Dublin, Ireland. At the final she got 66 point, therefore ending up in 9th place. However she won in the Barbara Dex category,  with the purple and turquoise dress.

Julie Zahra, 35

Julie represented Malta at the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul. She did so as half of the duo Julie & Ludwig, performing the song “On Again, Off Again”. In the semi-final, the first of its kind in Eurovision, they finished 8th, thus qualifying for the final. There they finished 12th out of 24 contestants. Julie & Ludwig also tried their luck in Malta Song for Europe 2003, with the song “My Number One“, but they had to wait another year before winning the right to represent their country.

 

Dina Garipova, 27

Russia selected Dina to go on their behalf at Eurovision in 2013. But she won the Golos, the Russian version of the Voice, the year before. Eurovision in 2013 was held in Sweden, and therefore she performed the song “What If” in Malmö. Garipova advanced from her semi final and reached the 5th place at the final.
