Russia looking to host Junior Eurovision 2019

Following Polina Bogusevich’s Junior Eurovision win last year, Russia has their eyes set on hosting the event. The administration of Krasnodar Territory says they’re ready to host the music contest in 2019 – and they already have a host city in mind.

According to RIA, the administration wants to host the contest in Sochi. Located on the black sea coast, Sochi hosted the prestigious Winter Olympics back in 2014. Now, however, they’re looking to host one of the biggest music events in the world. The head of the Krasnodar Territory region says that Sochi is the “event capital” of Russia. Furthermore, they point out that Sochi is able to provide security, transport logistics, and accommodation for the delegations and Junior Eurovision enthusiasts.
If the EBU decide that the bid is good enough, it’d mark the first time Russia has hosted the contest.

Russia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

With two victories, Russia is one of the most successful countries in Junior Eurovision history. They debuted in 2005 with the song “Doroga k solntsu”. The following year, they scored their first victory with the Tolmachevy Twins – who would later represent the country in the main contest. Last year Polina Bogusevich was victorious with her song “Wings”. Notably, Russia has never placed outside the top 10: their debut entry marked their worst placing thus far, scoring a 9th place.

Whether Sochi’s bid will be successful remains to be seen. Do you think Russia would make a good host for the contest? If not, who would you rather see host it? Let us know in the comments below or on social media @ESCXTRA!
