Yesterday on 18th of April there was one birthday girl. Today however are three Eurovision artist that have a birthday. One of them is a really successful composer and lyricist and has won Eurovision two times! Tomáš Krulich, Marijonas Mikutavičius and Rolf Løvland were born on this day.
Rolf Løvland, 63
Rolf is most known for writing the song “You Raise Me Up”. But he has also but his mark on Eurovision. He has won the Norwegian Eurovision selection, Melodi Grand Prix four times as a composer. That is in 1985, 1987, 1994 and 1995.
His first song that won the selection was “La Det Swinge” with the Bobbysocks and was the first Norwegian entry to win Eurovision. But they won the show in Gothenburg, Sweden. His next entry “Mit Liv” was first on stage in Brussel, Belgium. The song got 51 points and therefore landed the 9th place.
Norway picked Løvland’s song again in 1994 with the song “Duett” with Elisabeth Andreassen and Jan Werner Danielsen. The song got 76 points, that means it placed 6th at the contest.
His fourth song was “Nocturne” was chosen the year after. And this time his music band was on the stage with him the keyboard. Along with the singer of Fionnuala Sherry and two other guest musicians. The song got 148 points which was enough to give the band Secret Garden victory. That is Rolf second Eurovision Winning title!
Tomáš Krulich, 52
Czech Republic selected the rock band Kabát to go on their behalf at Eurovision in 2007. Krulich plays the guitar in the band. So therefore he and the band played in Helsinki the song “Malá Damá”. This years rock did not do as well, as the Lordi, as in failed to qualify to the final.
Marijonas Mikutavičius, 47
Lithuania picked the group LT United to be their reprecentative in 2006. Marijonas is the one with the goat t beard. They sang the song “We Are The Winners” in Athens Greece. The song made it to the final where it got 162 points, which awarded them the 6th place at the contest.
