Gaia Gambuzza will represent Malta at Junior Eurovision 2022

Gaia was selected from a pool of 16 budding young artists and will travel to Yerevan later this year.

The winner of Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 has officially been decided. Gaia Gambuzza will represent Malta with “Diamonds in the Skies” at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022, due to be held in Yerevan, Armenia on December 11.

Malta Junior Eurovision 2022

Malta’s national final, Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 took place at Rediffusion House in Gwardamanġa last Sunday. The national final was hosted by Ryan and Josmar Borg, who also hosted Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2022 earlier this year, selecting Emma Muscat.

A total of 16 finalists competed and all songs were assessed by an expert jury and the general public, who contributed to 75% and 25% of the votes respectively. The competition featured performances from three previous Junior Eurovision participants from Malta: Gianluca Cilia, Eliana Gomez Blanco and the duet Ike and Kaya from 2017, 2019 and 2021.

The results of the show are below – though only the top 3 results were revealed.

  13. Andrea Camilleri – “Spark” – 2nd
  14. Rih and Bri – “Karma”
  15. Kayleen Mercicea – “Shooting Star”
  16. Gaia Gambuzza – “Diamonds in the Skies” – 1st

Junior Eurovision 2022

The 2022 Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held on December 11th in the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex in Yerevan, Armenia. This is the second time that Yerevan is hosting the contest, after previously having this honour in 2011. A total of 16 countries will ‘Spin The Magic’ later this year. Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

Malta has participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 17 times since 2003, where they debuted in the inaugural contest in Copenhagen with Sarah Harrison and her entry “Like A Star”. Despite a couple of bottom table finishes, Malta has had a string of strong results throughout their appearances at Junior Eurovision. In fact, Malta has won Junior Eurovision twice in 2013 and 2015, with Gaia Cauchi and Destiny Chukunyere. Destiny went on to represent Malta at Eurovision itself in 2021, where she placed 7th in the Grand Final with her song “Je Me Casse”. Last year, Ike and Kaya represented Malta with the song ‘My Home‘. They placed 12th overall with a total of 97 points.
