An Xtra Happy Birthday; 13 July

Greetings to Armenia and Switzerland/Canada!

Just like yesterday there are two Eurovision birthdays to celebrate today. However, today we bring you two birthday girls. One of them represented a country other than her home country; she’s Canadian, but represented Switzerland! The other represented a country which only twice has failed to qualify for the grand final. Armenia’s Eva Rivas turns 31 today!

Eva Rivas, 31

Eva Rivas represented Armenia at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo. In the second semi-final she finished in sixth place, thus sailing through to the grand final. On the Saturday night she performed her wonderful “Apricot Stone” again. She finished in a very respectable seventh place, thereby continuing Armenia’s streak of top 10 results. “Apricot Stone” was their 5th top 10 placing out of 5 tries.
Eva Rivas might not be remembered for her song alone, though. A lot of people still remember her outfit; more specifically the top half; it seemed they might have forgotten part of it. Or perhaps they just ran out of fabric?

Annie Cotton, 43

Annie Cotton represented Switzerland at the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest in Millstreet. In doing so, she became the second Canadian-born singer to do so. She was also less than 40 points away from copying Celine Dion’s achievement from 1988, which would have made her the second Canadian Eurovision winner. However, two countries received more points than Annie and “Moi, tout simplement”; Ireland and the United Kingdom.

All of us here at escXtra wish Eva and Annie an Xtra super birthday!
