First six finalists for EMA 2022 selected in Slovenia

Who has made it to the final?

Slovenia kicked off their search for their Eurovision 2022 entry tonight with the first semi-final of EMA. Ten entries took to the stage with six qualifying for the final, which will take place on 19th February.

A further six acts will be decided in next week’s semi-final, so that 12 acts take part in the grand final which will take place in two weeks’ time. 127 songs were submitted to take part in both EMA 2022 and EMA FREŠ, a decline from 2020 when 191 songs were submitted to the national selection.

Slovenia will be hoping to make a return to the Eurovision final after Ana Soklič’s “Amen” failed to qualify in Rotterdam in 2021. Slovenia’s most recent appearance in the final came in 2019. Zala Kralj & Gašper Šantl led the country to the final with “Sebi”, placing 15th with 105 points. The nation’s best Eurovision placing remains as 7th place. This was achieved in both 1995 and 2001, courtesy of Darja Švajger and Nuša Derenda respectively.
