Turin 2022🇭🇷 Croatia

Submissions open for Dora 2022

The deadline for submissions is November 25.

Back in September, HRT confirmed that Croatia will participate in the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, due to be hosted in Turin. In addition, Dora will once again be used as the means of selecting their entry, following its revival back in 2019. Submissions for the selection opened this week.

On Wednesday, HRT opened the submissions window for Dora 2022. Until November 25, singers from Croatia and songwriters from across the globe can submit entries.

Like the 2021 edition, fourteen entries will be shortlisted for Dora 2022 (plus four reserves). The competing songs will be selected by HRT, the Croatian Music Union, and the Croatian Society of Composers. The winner, and therefore Croatia’s entry for Turin, will be determined by public televote and a jury.

Further, rules state that winning songs may no longer undergo a major revamp following the selection, with only minor modifications allowed (with permission from HRT).

Croatia at Eurovision 2021

Damir Kedžo won Dora 2020 with his song “Divlji vjetre”. In the selection, he won the televote and finished second in the jury vote. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Eurovision 2020 had to be cancelled. Rather than re-select Damir, HRT opted to run a fresh selection for 2021, with a new voting system.

Albina ended up winning the selection after placing first in both the jury vote and the televote with her song “Tick-Tock”. In Rotterdam, however, Albina narrowly missed out on a place in the Grand Final, placing in 11th in semi-final one with 105 points, just 5 points behind Norway’s TIX in 10th.

You can read a guest editorial from prominent Croatian-American academic Roko Rumora following Albina’s non-qualificaiton on Croatia’s recent contest history.
