As SMRTV gear up to host their emerging artists academy in San Marino City in mid-December, the Sammarinese broadcaster has revealed some new information regarding the quantity of submissions so far as well as the first four jurors that will be judging the “emerging artists” category.
San Marino’s second-ever national selection
For only the second time, SMRTV are choosing to hold a national selection to determine their entry for the upcoming 2022 Eurovision Song Contest being held in Turin, in neighbouring Italy. Their previous national selection, 1in360, was held in 2018 in the Slovak capital of Bratislava in which Maltese singer Jessika and Jenifer Brening of Germany were victorious with “Who We Are”. This time, Una Voce per San Marino is the name of the microstate’s selection and will contain two categories: “big artists” and “emerging artists”.
SMRTV have now revealed that over 200 submissions have been received for the “emerging artists” category. The submissions, open to all nationalities, includes singers from numerous nationalities with the most popular being German, Russian and Swedish. Indeed, SMRTV also tells us that artists from outside Europe, including artists from Australia and the United States, are also amongst the candidates.
Those artists selected to proceed in the “emerging artists” category will be invited to attend an academy in mid-December and early January. Then, a series of semi-finals will ultimately select 9 “emerging artists” to join 9 pre-selected “big artists” in an 18-act grand final on February 19th in Dogana’s Teatro Nuovo, the biggest theatre in San Marino with a capacity of almost 900.
First four jurors revealed
SMRTV have announced the names of four jurors who will be judging the “emerging artists” category and selecting the 9 eventual finalists from this section of the competition. These are as follows:
- Italian singer and musical theatre performer Roberta Faccani
- Italian composer Emilio Munda who has worked with acts including Il Volo and Nina Zilli
- Italian producer and sound engineer Roberto Costa
- British producer Steve Lyon who has worked with acts including The Cure and Depeche Mode
