Tel Aviv 2019

Application window for X Factor Malta closes 4th July

The opportunity to audition for Malta’s newest music competition will end in just a few days! Hopefuls can fill out a digital application, which can be found at tvm.com.mt/xfactormalta. Applicants also have the choice to send a video audition — consisting of a personal introduction and a short song — by messaging the clip to 77062018 on WhatsApp.
Requirements:

  • All artists must be sixteen years of age or older by 1st May 2019
  • Each performance may have up to six people on stage
  • All solo artists must be of Maltese nationality or hold dual citizenship, one which being Maltese. If an act includes more than one performer, only the lead artist needs to fulfill this nationality/citizenship requirement.

The brand new Maltese edition of the international X Factor franchise will replace the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, as in addition to securing a recording contract with Sony Music Italy, the winner of The X Factor Malta will represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. PBS has not yet revealed how they will choose the winner’s Eurovision song, but we expect further details to be announced as the show’s October premiere draws closer.

The premiere of the new competition sees the end of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, which has selected the country’s representative every year since its debut in 1971.
How do you feel about this significant change? After failing to qualify for the Eurovision grand final in three times in the past four years, is Malta wise to try something different? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below or on our various social media pages, and thank you for reading!
