Severina releases ‘Tutorial’ featuring Ljuba Stanković

Severina, Croatia’s representative in 2006, has released a music video to accompany her new song ‘Tutorial’. In the space of a week, the video has gone viral with over 4 million views on Youtube! The song, written by Jala Brat and Buba Corelli, is a teaser to Severina’s upcoming new album: Halo. The album is scheduled for release in the very near future. The popular songstress marks the second Croatian representative to release a song in the space of a week, with this year’s representative Franka releasing ‘Kao Ti I Ja’.

The music video features a crystalline couple dancing and interacting with one another, while Severina shows off her fencing skills. While the video is visually arresting, the song itself is undeniably catchy, with a pounding beat acting as a ground bass throughout.

Ljuba’s layered Eurovision influence

Though incredibly young, Ljuba has several connections with the Eurovision Song Contest and it has clearly influenced his personal music taste. He recently won Serbian talent show Pinkove Zvezde with a landslide. The five-strong jury judging the child competitors include successful Serbian Eurovision alumni. Milan Stanković represented Serbia in 2010 and Jelena Tomašović who represented Serbia on home soil in 2008! Additionally, six-year old Ljuba stated his musical inspirations include Jelena and Marija Šerifović who won the contest in 2007.  Watch his performance of Hari Mata Hari’s ‘Lelja’ on Pinkove Zvezde below:

Severina in the Eurovision Song Contest

Severina represented Croatia in Athens with the song ‘Moja Stikla’. Despite an energetic and titillating performance, she missed out on a top 10 finish, coming 12th. Croatia was supposed to compete in the semi-final. However, Serbia and Montenegro, who had finished 7th in 2005 and therefore had an automatic place in the final, withdrew last-minute following controversial voting in their national final, leading to outrage of the public and broadcaster UJRT. Because eleventh hour withdrawal, there was a missing space from the top 10 automatic qualifiers. Croatia was granted the missing space to the automatically qualify to the final as they came 11th the year before with ‘Vukovi Umiru Sami’ sang by Boris Novković.
