🇬🇷 Kalomira working on entry for possible Eurovision return?

Will Kalomira have the key to Greece's 'secret combination' in 2022?

Several Greek news outlets are reporting that Greece’s 2008 representative Kalomira is working on a proposal for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Italy. The singer has commented in the past – as recently as last year – that she would be open to returning to the contest. She pulled out of talks to represent Cyprus in 2021 due to concerns about coronavirus.

Radio station Youfly has reported that Kalomira has recently met with her record company Heaven to discuss her musical career. She is said to be “determined to return to singing”, with Eurovision being a possible platform to return to the industry. She previously took part in the contest in 2008, representing Greece, where she finished in 3rd place with “Secret Combination”

More record labels interested?

Earlier this month, EurovisionFun reported that interest in Eurovision from Greek record companies had increased following Stefania’s top 10 finish in Rotterdam. They commented on how Heaven Music – who have links to Kalomira – may also be interested in working with ERT on Eurovision 2022.

It’s not the first time that Kalomira has recently been linked to a Eurovision return. Last year, she was said to be in talks with the Cypriot broadcaster to represent the island nation before Elena Tsagkrinou was eventually selected as Cyprus’ act for Rotterdam. Kalomira said that “it was a risk with the coronavirus to travel with [her] children” as she is based in the USA.

At the time, she did add that she had not ruled out a return altogether saying that she “would like to go to Eurovision in the future” so her children can see her “on stage”. Only time will tell whether 2022 will be the year for Kalomira.

Kalomira at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008

With over 50% of the vote at the national final, Ellinikós Telikós, Kalomira was selected to represent Greece at Eurovision 2008 in Belgrade. Her song, “Secret Combination”, was released in February 2008 and featured on Kalomira’s fourth studio album, also titled Secret Combination.

At the contest, Kalomira won her semi-final with 156 points and, in the final, she scored 218 points, placing her in third behind winners Russia and runners-up Ukraine.

Would you like to see Kalomira back in the contest in 2022? Do you think she would be the perfect choice for Greece?
