Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

Since their Junior Eurovision comeback in 2013, the small island nation has secured an impressive five consecutive top ten finishes. This, of course, included two victories for Malta. In 2013, Gaia Cauchi won the contest in Kyiv with The Start. Just two years later, Destiny Chukunyere repeated Gaia’s feat, securing victory in Sofia for Malta with Not My Soul. As a result, Malta won the opportunity to host the contest in 2014 and 2016, doing so in Marsa and Valletta respectively.

Last year, Gianluca Cilia was selected to represent his nation. He performed the song Dawra Tond in Tbilisi, written by Dominic Cini and Emil Calleja Bayliss. Gianluca placed ninth in the contest, which included an impressive second-place finish in the online public vote!
