Finland’s UMK 2019 to take place March 2nd

Finland’s national broadcaster YLE have announced today the date of their national selection. UMK 2019 (Uuden Musiikin Kilpailussa) will take place on March 2nd.

The news comes moments after Tel Aviv was confirmed as the host city for Eurovision 2019 in Israel. Finland’s entry for the contest next year will be chosen on March 2nd at UMK 2019. The venue is yet to be confirmed but YLE has suggested further details to come later this year.

Finland will be represented by “YLE’s invited guest artist” suggesting we will for the second time see one internally selected artist with multiple competing songs at the national final. In 2017 Saara Aalto was internally chosen to represent Finland at Eurovision 2018. “Monsters” was chosen out of three songs at UMK 2018.

In Lisbon, Saara Aalto and “Monsters” qualified in 10th place in the semi final and placed 25th in the grand final.
