Postal stamp for Kalush Orchestra

The band is set to have their recent Eurovision victory permanently ingrained into the Ukrainian postal system.

Kalush Orchestra may have just won arguably the biggest music competition in the world. However, they are about to have more honours attached to their name. In fact, they are likely set to have a postal stamp created on their behalf, dedicated to their Eurovision win.

Honouring Kalush Orchestra

Ukrainian National News Agency Ukrinform announced earlier this week that Ukrposhta, the state-run postal operator of Ukraine, will likely issue a stamp dedicated to Kalush Orchestra’s victory in Turin.

Earlier this week, the CEO of Ukrposhta, Ihor Smilyanski, expressed his will to continue to honour the band’s success via Facebook. Stamps have previously been issued in 2004 and 2016, in recognition of Ruslana and Jamala’s wins respectively.

On his Facebook page, Ihor presented options of what the design of the stamp might look like. He also encouraged people to vote for the design they wanted. Citizens can do so via Ukraine’s largest-scale digital app, Diia, on Ukrposhta’s Facebook page, or on Ihor’s telegram channel.

“We congratulate Kalush on winning Eurovision. You’re awesome! Ukrposhta issues stamps in accordance with the decision of our Art Council. But I think I will have enough arguments to approve and speed up the issue of the stamp dedicated to our winners. Just like we did with Ruslana and Jamala”.

Kalush Orchestra’s win

In the early hours of Sunday morning last week, Kalush Orchestra was victorious in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Their song “Stefania” received a total of 631 points. This was comprised of an impressive total of 439 televoting points out of a possible 468, which is a record-breaking feat.

This is Ukraine’s third win at Eurovision. Their previous wins came in 2004 and 2016, with Ruslana’s “Wild Dances” and Jamala’s “1944” taking the trophy in both editions respectively. Since the introduction of the semi finals in 2004, they are the only country that has not failed to qualify to the Grand Final of each contest that they have participated in, excluding the Big Five.
