Belgium: Blanche goes double platinum in Belgium with City Lights

Just over a year after the track went Platinum, City Lights has now been awarded a Double Platinum certification by The Belgian Entertainment Association (BEA), meaning the song has sold over 40,000 copies.

Blanche (real name Ellie Delvaux) received her plaque at the ‘Francofolies De Spa’ festival in the village of Spa, Belgium. This is one of many accolades she has collected since her Eurovision success in Kiev last year, including the 2018 European Border Breakers Award. The young chanteuse also received two awards at French-Belgian broadcaster RTBF’s 2018 D6bels Music Awards. Delvaux has yet to release her debut album, but already has awards such as ‘Revelation of the Year’ to her name. No pressure, Ellie!

The song, which placed 4th in Kiev, received almost universal acclaim from fans when it was first released and has enjoyed enduring popularity since the contest; City Lights currently has over 20 million streams on Spotify and the official music video has over 14 million combined views. In addition, the song became a hit outside of Belgium, reaching the top 40 in Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland

New music after Eurovision

After working on her debut album for the past year, Blanche has released two excellent songs, ‘Wrong Turn’ and ‘Soon’. She is currently signed with PIAS Recordings. Blanche seems to be following in the footsteps of fellow The Voice alumni Loïc Nottet, who released his acclaimed debut Selfocracy following his success in Vienna 2015. Nottet also placed 4th in the contest, starting a 3-year top 10 streak for Belgium. The country had previously struggled to qualify for the final.

Release details for the album have yet to be announced, but Blanche recently teased that ‘there’s much more to come!’ in a Facebook post announcing the certification. Perhaps it’s just a matter of time until we get a release date?
