Israeli media: Erez Tal and Assi Azar rumoured to be Eurovision 2019 hosts

We have a host city, we have a venue and we have dates for the shows. Now, all we need are the hosts (and the acts but plenty of time for those to be selected…) to know everything that KAN are preparing for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2019 to take place in Tel Aviv, Israel in May 2019. Erez Tal and Assi Azar have been the names which crop up most frequently in local media in relation to the hosting roles for the contest.

From commentator to host?

Erez Tal has been considered by many as a front runner to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 due to his role in providing commentary to Israeli viewers on Netta’s win with “Toy”. The prominent television personality has previously taken charge of big entertainment shows such as the Israeli version of Wheel of Fortune, as well as Big Brother and The Vault, a format which he created.

Talking of Big Brother, Assi Azar was the co-host of the show alongside Erez Tal for five series of the show. More recently, he became the host of The Next Star which has selected Israel’s Eurovision representative since 2015. Israel Hayom reported last month that Assi Azar had a secret meeting with the CEO of KAN, further fuelling speculation that he is being seriously considered for a hosting role.

Because of the strong links between both individuals and Eurovision, as well as each other, this has helped drive discussions that the pair will reunite on the Eurovision stage in Tel Aviv next May.
