Fidan Huseynova to fly the Azerbaijani flag in Minsk

The Junior Eurovision news is coming rapidly now the contest is only a few months away. The next country to reveal their artist for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 is Azerbaijan. They have chosen to send Fidan Huseynova to Minsk.

Lara Fabian’s favourite

11 year old Fidan Huseynova is a well known name in Azerbaijan’s child singing culture. The young singer clearly has a preference for ballads. Despite her young age, she was already invited to perform together with Lara Fabian during her Baku concert. Fidan then sang Je T’Aime and Je Suis Malade together with the 1988 Eurovision entrant.

The performance together with Lara Fabian sure isn’t the only highlight in Fidan’s young career. In 2016, the president of Azerbaijan awarded her with a presidential scholarship for extraordinary young talent. Quite a tag to live up to…

“I’m ready!”

Upon her selection, Fidan Huseynova also commented on her selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018. She stated that she is ready to fly her flag and that she wants to be successful for Azerbaijan, as she hopes to win the contest for the first time.

Leyla Guliyeva, responsible for Junior Eurovision at Azerbaijan’s broadcaster ITV, explained why the country is making their return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year. She mentioned that she hopes competitions like this one make children more enthusiastic about music.

Azerbaijan withdrew after the 2013 contest. They then took part for the second time. In 2012., they finished second to last. A year later, they first reached the top ten, when Me And My Guitar by Rustam Karimov scored a seventh place, albeit in a twelve song field…

Guliyeva added that the song Fidan will sing in Minsk is not ready yet. The broadcaster will release it in due course. The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 will take place on 25th November.
