According to fellow Eurovision website ESCToday, Georgia’s broadcaster GPB has confirmed that the country will participate in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest! These news bring the confirmed participants to a total of 30! As we previously reported, countries will have until sometime in October to confirm their participation in Tel Aviv.
No plans yet for the entry selection
The Georgian broadcaster did not reveal any plans regarding the selection of the Georgian entry in Tel Aviv. In the last two years, they have used both National Final, and Internal Selection.
Georgia in The Eurovision Song Contest
Georgia first participated at Eurovision back in 2007, finishing 12th and participated every year since, except in 2009, where a controversy surrounding their song led to their withdrawal. Over the years, Georgia participated a total of 11 times, qualifying to the final on 7 occasions. They reached their best result, 9th place, in 2010 and 2011, with Sopho Nizharadze and Eldrine. In 2018, Georgia was represented by the Ethno-Jazz Band Iriao and the song “For You”. They finished 18th (last) in the second Semi-Final, with 24 points.
