Sam Bailey among artists interested in Eurovision: You Decide

Ever since British broadcaster BBC revealed that Eurovision: You Decide will return for 2019, artists have been expressing their interest on Twitter. Former Eurovision stars Tamar Kaprelian and JOWST are the most prolific ones, along with former X Factor winner Sam Bailey.

From prison officer to X Factor winner

Back in 2013, 36 year old prison officer Sam Bailey auditioned for X Factor. She ended up winning the show that year, mentored by Sharon Osbourne. She impressed the UK public with many power ballads, such as The Power of Love and My Heart Will Go On. In ten of the fourteen shows, she topped the public vote. In the other four, she finished in second.

She eventually left Simon Cowell’s label, Syco Music in 2015, just two years after winning X Factor. A year later, she released her second album. The songs for Sing My Heart Out were all recorded in the United States. Her focus then switched to other projects, such as musical theatre and a charitable project to support LGBTQ+ rights in Chechnya.

After BBC’s call for artists yesterday, a fan tweeted at Bailey, asking her to submit an entry for Eurovision: You Decide. The singer says all she would need is a good song. Eurovision experience might help…

JOWST willing to help out

If you’re active on Twitter, you may have noticed how eager Norwegian DJ and producer JOWST is to get back to the Eurovision Song Contest. Together with Aleksander Walmann, he represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, performing Grab The Moment. They finished in tenth.

JOWST released a hashtag on Twitter a good while ago, stating his desire to write a song for the United Kingdom for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019: #UKxJOWST. He took his chance when vocal powerhouse Sam Bailey expressed some interest in Eurovision.

Tamar Kaprelian also aiming for Eurovision return

You know how once you love Eurovision, you can’t get away from it, ever… Tamar Kaprelian seems to have caught proper Eurovision fever now. She took part once, as part of Genealogy in 2015. She was invited to take part because of her Armenian roots to be part of a group to sing Face The Shadow.

Last year, she attempted to make a Eurovision comeback in Depi Evratesil. The Armenian national final started with Tamar as one of the fans’ favourites with her song Poison (Ari Ari). Sadly, the 31 year old did not make it through to the final there.

This time, she’s set her eyes on the United Kingdom. Thanks to her father being born in the UK and having her mother’s family there, she also holds citizenship of the country.
