🇳🇱 Jeangu Macrooy to reveal Eurovision 2021 entry on 4th March

Just one week to wait!

Jeangu Macrooy, who will represent host country The Netherlands in Rotterdam, has announced that his Eurovision 2021 entry will be revealed on Thursday 4th March.

The song will be premiered live during a special broadcast on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram at 19:00 CET on the night. The Netherlands are pre-qualified for the final this year, as hosts, and will perform 23rd during the grand final on 22nd May.

“No peeking!”

The news was announced by Jeangu Macrooy and Songfestival.nl on social media. As well as the announcement of the entry’s release date, they also posted a “teaser video” – but we don’t get to hear any of the song!

A select group of fans will also have “digital front row seats” for the premiere, allowing them to ask Jeangu questions as well as give him feedback about his entry. To enter the draw to be selected for this experience, you need to send an email to [email protected].

Jeangu was originally set to represent The Netherlands at last year’s contest, however it was cancelled due to the pandemic. Dutch Eurovision commentator Cornald Maas has already said that Jeangu and the Dutch team have been “miraculously succeeding in [the] mission” to deliver another “suitable” entry.

The Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest

One of the founding Eurovision nations, the Netherlands had a strong start in the contest winning two contests before the end of the 1950s. They then went on to win again in 1969, and for the fourth time with “Ding-a-Dong” in 1975.

After that, the Netherlands’ luck seemingly run out and the nation could not even score another top 3 result in the 20th century, despite only missing three contests in 1985, 1991 and 1995 (they went onto miss a fourth contest in 2002).

Their lack of luck continued into the 21st century, with the Netherlands managing an eight-year non-qualifying streak from 2005 to 2012. However, in 2013, with Anouk’s “Birds”, they managed to make the final and finish in 9th place.

The results only improved from there, and after scoring a second place finish in 2014, the Netherlands won the contest for the fifth time in 2019 with Duncan Laurence’s entry, “Arcade”. Jeangu Macrooy will represent the nation in 2021, after the contest was cancelled in 2020.

Are you excited to hear Jeangu’s entry? Did you like “Grow” last year?
