Tel Aviv 2019

Belarus confirms participation in Tel Aviv!

In the past few weeks confirmations of participation in Israel have been rolling in. Belarusian broadcaster BTRC also confirmed the country will participate at Eurovision next May.

No further information regarding selection method

Belarus will participate at Eurovision for the 16th time in a row in Tel Aviv, having debuted in Istanbul in 2004. Currently, BRTC has not yet revealed further details regarding how they will select their 2019 entrant. However, it is likely that the country will continue using their televised national final as they have been doing the last few years.

Eurovision Song Contest 2019

The 2019 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place on 14, 16 and 18 May in Tel Aviv, Israel.  This follows Israel’s Netta Barzilai’s victory with her catchy entry “Toy“. So far, more than countries have either confirmed participation or intent to participate. As we previously reported, countries will have until sometime in October to confirm their participation in Tel Aviv.

Belarus in the Eurovision Song Contest

Belarus made their Eurovision debut back in 2004 with Alexandra and Kostantin’s “My Galileo” and participated every year since. Unfortunately, the country has struggled to achieve good results at the contest only making the final in 5 attempts. So far, their best result (and only top 10 placing) is Dmitry Koldun’s 6th place in 2007 with “Work your magic“. Belarus most recently qualified for the final in 2017 with Naviband’s “Story of my life“, their first entry in Belarusian. In Lisbon, it was Ukraine-born Alekseev who represented the country with his melancholic song “Forever“. Despite a very emotional and fascinating performance, he finished 16th with 65 points, failing to qualify.

Are you happy Belarus will participate in Israel? What is your favourite Belarusian entry at Eurovision? Who would you like to see represent them in 2019?

Born in Italy, I have lived in 5 countries in 3 continents. I discovered Eurovision by accident in 2010 and became a superfan in 2013. I attended both Eurovision and Junior Eurovision events and covered several national finals on the ground and hope to continue doing so for a long time!
