After another failure to qualify in Lisbon, Switzerland announced their change of plans regarding their entry selection in 2019. We now have the first invited member of the International Jury, which will be used to select the Swiss song!
Ovi to be an expert juror!
In a Facebook post, the Romanian representative in both 2010 and 2014, Ovi, announced that he has been invited to be a member of the International Expert Jury. This jury will be made up of former members of the respective countries’ juries. They will have a 50% say in the outcome, with another jury, a 100-member public panel, having the other 50%.
Ovi represented Romania along with Paula Seling twice. In 2010, they achieved Romania’s best result in the contest, coming third with 162 points with their song “Playing with fire”. They returned once again in 2014 with the song “Miracle”. They finished 12th with 72 points.
Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest
Switzerland was one of the countries that competed in the very first Eurovision in 1956. They were also the first winners with Lys Assia’s “Refrain”. They also won the contest in 1988 with Celine Dion’s “Ne partez pas sans moi.” Since the introduction of the semi-finals, Switzerland struggled to make the final and only managed to qualify for the grand final on four occasions, most recently in 2014. In Lisbon, the sibling duo Zibbz represented Switzerland with their entry “Stones”. Despite their powerful performance, they only placed 13th in semi-final 1, failing to make the final.
