In a rollercoaster ride of a weekend, The X Factor UK reached its most dramatic stage – the Six Chair Challenge round. Each judge now must slim their category to just six acts, asking them to sing for a seat on the stage. The category is only complete after every person has sung and been designated a chair or eliminated. This year, the show has added a golden buzzer, ensuring a direct qualification through to the Judges House round. Each judge can use this buzzer just once in their category to give one lucky artist a safe seat.
Brendan Murray earns Louis Tomlinson’s safe seat
Sunday’s show saw Louis Tomlinson, the former member of One Direction, began to shortlist his singers. Ireland’s representative at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017, Brendan Murray was one of the performers shown on the show. Performing a sensational rendition of “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M., Brendan impressed the whole judging panel and earned a standing ovation from Simon Cowell, Robbie Williams and his judge Louis Tomlinson.
After some high praise from Simon Cowell, Brendan’s judge Louis jumped off the judging panel and raced to push the golden buzzer button, ensuring that Brendan Murray will proceed through to the Judges Houses round of the competition.
Brendan cannot be eliminated, no matter what happens in next Saturday’s episode of the show when Louis completes his boys category. Next weekend, we will find out who Brendan replaces on the seats in the boys category and who he will be competing against in the Judges Houses round.
Cezar Ouatu eliminated by penultimate performer
On Saturday night’s show, we saw Ayda Field give Cezar Ouatu one of her six seats but with three performers still to come, nothing was certain yet for Romania’s entrant at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 final.
In tonight’s show, Ayda completed her category making some tough decisions along the way. After Janice Robinson performed her incredible rendition of “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”, originally sung by the iconic Aretha Franklin, she was awarded Cezar’s seat, which sparked the end of the competition for the Italian-based singing teacher.
