Gaia Cauchi, Junior Eurovision winner, becomes part of new girl group at X Factor Six Chair Challenge

The winner of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013, Gaia Cauchi, has proceeded to the Six Chair Challenge round of The X Factor UK by joining forces with other competing young female singers and becoming part of a new girl group named Sweet Sense and continuing through to the Judges Houses round of the show.

Sweet Sense take their first steps towards stardom

Despite impressing in the initial audition phase of the show, the judges remarked that because of her age she might be better suited to being a member of a girl group. Now, that wish from the judges has come to fruition with Gaia Cauchi being asked to join a group.

As TellyMix reported earlier, Sweet Sense themselves say, “we all originally auditioned as soloists for our first audition and then on deliberation day we got put together as a girl group”.

The X Factor UK has a long history of manufacturing groups after the audition phases of the show. Famously both One Direction, who finished the show in third place, and Little Mix, the first group to win the show, were both manufactured by the judging panel on The X Factor before going onto global success.

It’s easy to see what the plan was with the judging panel this year too. Groups mentor Robbie Williams wanted to expand his category by manufacturing groups from all of the other categories – the girls, the boys, and the overs – giving opportunities to all three of the manufactured groups in his Six Chair Challenge with Sweet Sense one of the acts proceeding to the upcoming Judges Houses round.

In Gaia’s girl group, five vocalists were put together because of their different tones for a strong harmony. The group expanded on this by saying “We feel we work really well together – the connection is really good”.

Sweet Sense is a manufactured girl group comprising 15-year-old Gaia Cauchi, 17-year-old Ellie Grant, 18-year-old twins Billie Tomo and Charlie Tomo and 15-year-old Kezia Povey and they performed “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars at the Six Chair Challenge.
