Gaia Cauchi opens up with emotional cover of Demi Lovato’s “Sober”

It’s been a big few months for 2013 Junior Eurovision Song Contest winner Gaia Cauchi! Back in July, the Maltese star took to the Wembley Arena stage for her X Factor UK audition. Her X Factor UK journey took her all the way to Robbie Williams’ house in Los Angeles before being eliminated alongside her Sweet Sense bandmates last night.

Now, Gaia has taken to Instagram to upload an emotional message and cover of Demi Lovato’s Sober.

Offering hope and solidarity

In an Instagram message, Gaia delivers an important message of perseverance, solidarity and hope to her 27,000 followers. Her choice to cover Sober is particularly poignant. Demi’s lyrics tackle the topic of giving up, in Demi’s case sobriety, as well as her desire to be a role model to her fans while struggling to believe in herself. Nevertheless, Demi recognises that there is light at the end of the tunnel, knowing there is help there for her.

Shortly after the release of Sober in June, Demi reportedly suffered an overdose. Nevertheless, she has sought help and is currently in rehabilitation. We wish her the best of luck in her recovery!

Gaia has delivered her own interpretation of these lyrics and you can watch her cover and read her important message to her fans below. Don’t forget to click the arrows as the video is split into four separate clips. We wish Gaia the best of luck for the next steps in her career!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
