Helena Paparizou discusses possible Eurovision return

Could we be seeing Helena Paparizou for a third time in Eurovision? The Greek singer recently gave an interview to the Greek magazine TV Ethnos, and discussed several topics, including The Voice and Eurovision.

“Eurovision is still in my plans”

This wouldn’t be the first time Paparizou has hinted or attempted for a Eurovision return. Back in 2014, she tried to represent her second home country when she participated in Melodifestivalen with “Survivor”, placing 4th. More recently, she was approached by the Cypriot broadcaster with the intentions of having her as their representative for 2018.

During her interview with TV Ethnos, the 2005 winner reportedly said that a return in Eurovision is still possible. Specifically, the singer has said that “Eurovision isn’t over for me and a third participation in the future is still in my mind.”

In the interview, she also spoke about about the leaked demo of Fuego with her vocals saying:

It was bad that the demo leaked. It wasn’t right. Everybody does a lot of demos which would then be performed by other artists. It’s not nice neither for me or Eleni [Foureira]. She was brilliant and should have won this year’s Eurovision.

Something… dark from Helena

Apart from her interview, Helena recently released a new single. After her recent success with the album Ouranio Toxo, which includes the hit singles “An Me Deis Na Kleo” and “Etsi Ki Etsi”. The song is entitled “Kati Skotino” (Something Dark) and was released one week ago on selected radios in Greece and Cyprus. Meanwhile its music video premiered today and was directed by Alex Constantinides.

As the song title implies (and the music video’s atmosphere) the powerful ballad discusses a rather “dark” topic for Paparizou; it is about a failed relationship, which despite the hardships, love is above logic even when you’re in “something dark”. Similarly, in its music video, we can see the singer encountering a dark side of herself, showing how that can be harmful in a relationship.

Would you like to see Helena Paparizou on the Eurovisions stage once again?  What do you think of her new song? Would you like to see her perform something similar in the contest?

Dimitris Ioannou

I'm Dimitris, from Cyprus. Eurovision has been a big part of my life for so long now. My first memories of the contest go back to 2005, which was a special year as Greece had won with Helena Paparizou. But 2009 was truly the first year I became a die-hard Eurofan, which is why that year holds a special place in my heart.
