Earlier, it was confirmed that Georgia will use Georgia Idol will be its method to select its entrant. In an interview, Georgia’s Head of Delegation Natia Mshvenieradze has confirmed that it will also use the contest to pick its entry for next year.
Submissions for entries to open in due course!
During the radio interview, Natia has confirmed, that submission for composers will open up in due course. The artist and the entry for Georgia will then be selected at the Grand Final of Georgia Idol.
Auditions for the new series of Georgia Idol is currently taking place, with the competition set to air in early 2019.
“Looking for new challenges”
In her interview, Natia has mentioned of her expectations, which involves looking for new challenges as usual and trying to bring Georgia to the Grand Final after two non-consecutive qualifications with Tamara and Iriao.
Georgia in The Eurovision Song Contest
Georgia first participated at Eurovision back in 2007, finishing 12th and participated every year since, except in 2009, where a controversy surrounding their song led to their withdrawal. Over the years, Georgia participated a total of 11 times, qualifying to the final on 7 occasions. They reached their best result, 9th place, in 2010 and 2011, with Sopho Nizharadze and Eldrine. In 2018, Georgia was represented by the Ethno-Jazz Band Iriao and the song “For You”. They finished 18th (last) in the second Semi-Final, with 24 points.
