Tel Aviv 2019

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix to take place on February 23!

Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) has confirmed that they will be selecting their entry for Tel Aviv on February 23 at the Jyske Bank Boxen.

Herning = recipe for success?

The Danish city has proven itself as successful host city and venue for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. When the city hosted the competition last year, Anja Nissen won the competition and managed to qualify for the Grand Final after not qualifying for the Grand Final for two years.

In addition to that, the city was also the host in 2013, when Emmelie de Forest competed with her entry ‘Only Teardrops’ and she managed to bring the competition back to Danish soil!

Head of entertainment for DR Jan Lagermand Lundme has commented on Herning hosting DMGP once again:

“It’s a big national event every year.  And the atmosphere, especially in the Box in Herning, is absolutely amazing when we are there.
You really feel how people want this, so I am sure that those in the hall and in front of the screens at home will have a good and unique experience.

Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest

Denmark first appeared in the contest in the second edition in 1957 and participated in total of 46 times. It won the contest three times: in 1963 with Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann, in 2000 with the Olsen Brothers and 2013 with Emmelie de Forest. Since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004, it failed to reach the final on four occasions. In Lisbon, Rasmussen’s “Higher Ground”  flew the Danish flag. He reached 9th place in the grand final with 229 points. It was Denmark’s first top 10 result since 2014 when the contest took place on home soil.
