As we reported earlier this month, Croatia will use their selection show “Dora” to pick their Tel Aviv entrant. This is the first time since 2011 that the broadcaster opts to use a national final. We know also know the show will unfold over three nights.
Three shows with different styles of music
Report from Croatian media outlet Jutarnji suggest that the show will unfold over three nights, each featuring with a specific style of music. The shows will take place in Optatija and will feature:
- On Night One: Chansons and Optaija Serenades with the Symphony Orchestra
- On Night Two: Dora classics
- On Night Three: Entries for Eurovision 2019
Furthermore, Jutarnji suggests that both jury and televoters will have a say on selecting the entrant for Tel Aviv.
First national final since 2011
Until 2011, Croatia used “Dora” to pick their Eurovision entrants. However, following a couple of poor results and decreasing public interest, HRT decided to drop the show and used internal selection instead. As we reported earlier this month, “Dora” is part of a series major entertainment projects that HRT will work on.
Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest
Croatia made their Eurovision debut back in 1993 with Put’s “Don’t Ever Cry” finishing 15th. So far, Croatia participated to 24 contests only missing out in 2014 and 2015. To date, their best result are the two 4th places achieved in 1996 and 1999. In Lisbon, it was Franka who flew the Croatian flag with her mysterious entry “Crazy”. Unfortunately, she didn’t manage to qualify for the grand final, finishing 17th with 63 points.
Are you happy “Dora” is back? Who would you like to see Croatia send to Tel Aviv? Will they be able to return to the final? What is your favourite Croatian entry at the contest so far?
