Davina Michelle talks down Eurovision rumours

The Netherlands are looking for their entrant in the Eurovision Song Contest. A few weeks ago, AVROTROS confirmed that they were in discussions with several artists. Rumours suggested one of those was rising star Davina Michelle.

“Not this year”

23 year old Davina Michelle was a guest on Rob Stenders’s afternoon show at Radio 2 today to promote her #1 single Duurt Te Lang. When the host asked her about the rumours that she would be discussing a potential Eurovision participation, she said:

Well, there’s nothing to the rumours. I don’t know if it’s… you know. I don’t think it’s something for this year, no.

It therefore seems we can safely cross her off the list for Tel Aviv. Just a week ago, she said on RTL Boulevard that she had not been approached by AVROTROS at all. With today’s statement, Davina might be one for the future.

Rising star in the Netherlands

The Rotterdam native rose to fame earlier this year when she released a cover of Pink’s hit What About Us. The American singer even responded to Davina’s cover, giving it many views on YouTube.

After the early success, AVROTROS invited her to take part in De Beste Zangers van Nederland. The show, similar to Sweden’s Så Mycket Bättre, featured some of the country’s most popular singers this season, including former Eurovision entrant Trijntje Oosterhuis. In one of the last shows, Davina Michelle covered Glen Faria’s Duurt Te Lang. The cover turned out to be a great success by reaching #1 on the Dutch charts.

The Netherlands are usually one of the first to select their entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest. They’ve often announced their singers in October, but have decided to take a slower approach this year. Who will represent them in Tel Aviv?
