The only 18-year-old Gregor Hägele is the youngest participant for the German national final. When the NDR first called him and told him, that he is in the selection process for the national final, he thought it was a bad joke. With the age of 10, he started getting singing lessons. He loves emotions and an intimate feeling while performing. In conclusion, he prefers singing ballads and doesn’t need a big show around him.
Gregor even took a short break from traveling the world to be part of the songwriting camp and that the time at the camp felt great for him. He writes his own songs for two years but mainly in German. For the national selection he works more on English songs, but also wants to get a German song out of the songwriting camp. If he can’t choose between the German and the English one, he would enter the German song for the national final. “English makes sense in an international contest, but you represent your country, I think it’s a good idea to represent your country in your own language.” No wonder his favorite ESC moment was the appearance of Salvador Sobral in 2017 in Kyiv.
