I do enjoy a song with a sneaky false intro that turns an oompah band party! However it just goes to show Andreea is not messing around, her vocal range is almost an instrument too in how she projects it. Sometimes you just need a light-hearted entry that doesn’t take itself seriously. Moldova do this style of entry very well and their Romanian neighbours need to take some hints and showcase their culture again. As that is what does well in the contest and plays into the televote only nature of the Semi-Finals.

This song is everything you’d want in a Eurovision entry that doesn’t take itself too seriously – and that’s a compliment! I adore the lightheartedness of the instrumentation, as well as how various parts of the song are half-sung and half-spoken. It’s an entry that we haven’t seen from Romania in a while, and I am very interested to see how this will be performed on stage as it has the potential to be as great as a fantastic display of fireworks. I think this song is one that is meant to be performed on stage, as it is very memorable on a first-listen and viewing, which is what counts when it comes to Eurovision, particularly as the semi-final qualifiers will be decided solely by a televote.

Periniţa mea is an instant highlight of the selection in Romania and one that most clearly brings to mind a fun, party Eurovision entry. I think it’s easily the best choice they have available to them and it would be fantastic if they embraced what Moldova often do so well. I have some concerns about how this is going to come across live, the staging in the TVR video looks unfortunately a little wooden, I hope to be proven wrong and the artists perform their best on stage, because this really has the potential to give us a crowd rouser to remember with its liveliness.
