Tel Aviv 2019

Germany reveals impressive list of Unser lied für Tel Aviv songwriting camp participants

Last year, in Lisbon, Germany’s string of bad results in Eurovision came to an end when Michael Schulte came 4th with his song, You Let Me Walk Alone. This was Germany’s best result in the contest since Lena’s win with Satellite in 2010 and it appears to have spurred a lot of interest in the country. The list of songwriters taking part in the Unser lied für Tel Aviv songwriting camps has just been revealed and it is looking like Germany may be heading for another top 5 result!

The 24 songwriters have spent five days supporting the six Unser lied für Tel Aviv candidates. The songs will be performed in a “preliminary round” in February. Lars Ingwersen and his team will pick which songs will advance to the Unser lied für Tel Aviv live show.

Several Eurovision alumni

The list of songwriters includes several previous Eurovision participants and songwriters.

Tim Schou was the lead singer of the Danish band A Friend in London, who came 5th in Eurovision 2011 with their song New Tomorrow. The band went on to release an album in 2013 before disbanding in 2014.

You may know Axel Ehnström by his stage name, Paradise Oskar, with which he participated in Eurovision 2011 with his song, Da Da Dam. Despite being popular amongst fans, Da Da Dam finished 21st in the final.

A Eurovision-winning songwriter is also taking part – Thomas Stengaard co-wrote the Danish 2013 winner, Only Teardrops, as well as last year’s German entry, You Let Me Walk Alone.

High-profile newcomers to Eurovision

There are also several artists and songwriters who have not yet taken part in Eurovision in any way, but sing or have wrote some very well-known songs! The list includes:

Kristine Bogan is from New York but lives in Berlin and has written several songs for Disney.

Steven Bashir from Stuttgart was originally a lawyer, but has gone on to write songs with Felix Jaehn and Finland’s Alma.

Nina Müller is a musician from Hamburg who writes for film, television and advertising. She was one of the co-writers of Michael Schulte’s You Let Me Walk Alone.

Michael Ochs mostly writes pop, country, rock or crossover music and has works with the likes of Josh Groban and Helene Fischer.

Tim Uhlenbrock is a writer and actor in several crime dramas. He has also wrote music previously for Madeline Juno.

Laila Samuelsen from Oslo has wrote several songs for Lena, Ivy Quainoo, Didrik Solli-Tangen and Ann Sophie.

See the rest of the songwriters for yourself here.

Could one of these songwriters bring a Eurovision winner to Unser lied für Tel Aviv? Is there anyone that you think is missing from the list?

I've watched Eurovision for as long as I can remember, but my interest really built in 2008, after I decided to watch the semifinals online, out of boredom, before the final...I was blown away by the quality of the show and have been hooked ever since! I'm a competitive trampolinist and I love baking. I've also just completed a master's degree in Research Methods in Psychology at University College London.
