Minsk 2018

Ryan O’Shaughnessy and Niamh Kavanagh star in Taylor Hynes’s “IOU” video

TG4 have revealed the official video for Ireland’s Junior Eurovision entry, “IOU” by Taylor Hynes. The video features two well known faces to fans of the Eurovision Song Contest: Ryan O’Shaughnessy and Niamh Kavanagh!

Is it Throwback Thursday?

The official video is a proper throwback to the 1970s. It is set in a typical house of that time, with brown flowers as wallpaper and bands like Pink Floyd having banners on the wall.

The three main characters of the video are Taylor Hynes himself, together with Ryan O’Shaughnessy and Niamh Kavanagh. Both former Irish Eurovision entrants, with Kavanagh even having won the contest back in 1993, were part of the Junior Eurovision Éire selection process this year. In the video, the three seem to be acting like a happy little family. The three are casually bopping along to the song whilst shaking their heads in unison on the stairs.

Not everything in the video dates back to the 1970s. At the end, we also see some references to the immensely popular game Fortnite. One of those references is the floss, a dance move that has taken the internet by storm lately.

Song revamped

Soon after Taylor Hynes was revealed as Irish entrant for Minsk, his songwriter confirmed that they were working on a recap. Eurovision veterans Niall Mooney and Jonas Gladnikoff wrote the song together with Taylor. Gladnikoff wrote on Twitter:

With the new video, the team have also revealed their revamp. The new version of the song enhances the retro feel the video is trying to give us. Ireland were the last country to reveal their entry for Minsk, but we know that some entrants, like Azerbaijan’s Fidan Huseynova, are still going to release a revamped version of their entries.
