Finland: Eva + Manu tease Eurovision participation

Will the pop-folk duo Eva + Manu represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019? At least their behavior on social media suggests so.

Leaving hints on social media

It all started with a Facebook post captioned “Already looking towards Spring 2019 becaaause…”. Few Finnish Eurovision fans commented on the picture, suggesting this might hint them representing Finland in Tel Aviv next year. The duo responded to the comments quite cryptically, but didn’t deny anything.

After that, Eva + Manu posted a picture of Lordi on their Instagram story. The picture was taken from Lordi’s victorious Eurovision performance. This picture was captioned “Remember when these guys took over the stage? So good!”

Eva + Manu who?

Eva + Manu (or Eva & Manu) are Finnish Eva Louhivuori and French Emmanuel “Manu” Laudic. The couple met in Boston while studying in Berklee College of Music. They moved to London in 2010, but decided to travel all around the Europe and write music. In 2010 they released their first EP.

After that they moved to Finland and their first album Eva & Manu was released. The second album Cinnamon Hearts was released in 2014. Although the couple decided to break up in 2016, they still continue to make music together.

Their songs vary from soulful ballads such as “Empty” to cheerful folk songs such as “Cinnamon Hearts“. Next to Eva + Manu, Manu also has his solo project Ritarit. Although he is not native Finnish speaker, the songs by Ritarit are in Finnish.

Finland at Eurovision 2019

Finland’s broadcaster Yle decided to choose their Eurovision 2019 artist internally, as they did in 2018. The song will be chosen through Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, where the artist performs the potential Eurovision entries. It’s still unclear how many songs we will hear or how the winner song will be chosen. Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2019 will take place on March 2nd.

This year Saara Aalto performed three songs in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu and the Finnish public chose the winner together with international juries.

I started watching Eurovision back in 2006, when I was only 10 and couldn't stay up to see Lordi winning. I attended my first contest in 2013 in Malmö. I'm studying journalism and I love music — you will probably never see me without my headphones on.
