Minsk 2018

Day 1: France’s Angélina recreates a day out in a Parisian park – REVIEW

ESCXTRA are live from Minsk for day 1 of rehearsals ahead of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018!

Today’s schedule

The countries rehearsing today, in chronological order, are Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Israel, France, F.Y.R. Macedonia, Georgia, Ireland, Albania and Belarus.

Next up to rehearse is Angélina from France. We have just watched the first run through of Jamais Sans Toi live on screen and here is our initial overview.

Rehearsal review

We have an extremely energetic performance from France here which brings with Angélina and her two dancers, one male and one female, in the centre of the B-stage. The camera spins around them until the beat kicks in in which they walk towards the camera and onto the main stage.

On the main stage, there are bench, ice cream stalls and lamppost prop and the LED screen shows an Eiffel Tower and many many leaves. This creates the feel of a park in the centre of Paris.

Into the chorus, we have Angélina and her dancers recreating the “foot on knee” dance move from the video clip. The second verse sees the three performers sitting on the bench with Angélina singing towards her female friend. For the second chorus, the screens change to a pink and white swirl effect.

Entering the middle eight, it seems as though it’s becoming nighttime as the spotlights come on and they are at the ice cream stall. Then for the final chorus, we return to the pink and white swirls, the “foot to knee” dance before finishing back on the bench.

It’s a very exciting performance for the French who are making the most of their comeback. Angélina is dress in dungarees, with her dancers in similarly casual and young clothing!

Ryan Cobb

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
