Minsk 2018

Day 1: The arena is filled with gold for Australia’s Jael – REVIEW

ESCXTRA are live from Minsk for day 1 of rehearsals ahead of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018!

Today’s schedule

The countries rehearsing today, in chronological order, are Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Israel, France, F.Y.R. Macedonia, Georgia, Ireland, Albania and Belarus.

Next up to rehearse is Jael from Australia. We have just watched the first run through of Champion live on screen and here is our initial overview.

Rehearsal review

First on-stage prop of the week comes courtesy of Australia, with Jael standing on a small podium to belt out her anthemic ballad. During the verses, the LEDs aren’t really in use, with a focus on blue spotlights in a black setting. As we move into each chorus, everything turns gold and glittery.

Talking of glitter, Jael’s dress is full of silver glitter at knee-length. She has some fabulous silver boots to complete her outfit.

Back to the performance, there’s the makings of a very effective camera shot in the middle 8 in which it films Jael from behind to look out to the arena, which will no doubt be filled with flashlights.

By the end of the performance, Jael is already catching the cameras and doing her signature Champion arm curl! As he confidence continues to grow, she aims for even more challenging notes to show off her voice to its maximum.

Watch the rehearsal!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
