Kosovo’s RTK meet with the EBU to discuss membership

The Kosovan broadcaster are keen to debut next year

The general director of RTK has this week met with the EBU to discuss the possibility of the Kosovan broadcaster becoming an official member of the broadcasting union.

RTK director confirm talks have taken place

The EBU president, Jean-Paul-Philippot met with RTK’s general director, Mentor Shala ahead of next week’s general assembly.  Among the discussion was the possibility of RTK becoming a member of the EBU which would secure their right to participate in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
In an RTK report, Mentor Shala confirmed the news;

We had a meeting with EBU President Jean-Paul Philippot in which we discussed the General Assembly held at the end of this month, as well as the possibility of RTK becoming a fully-fledged member of the EBU, thus ensuring participation in the European Eurovision Song Contest next year.

Kosovo’s participation at Young Dancers

RTK have been keen to join the Eurovision Song Contest since Kosovo gained independence in 2008. In 2011, the nation participated in the Eurovision Young Dancers contest, represented by Tringa Hsya.  Despite their respectable 5th placing, they withdrew from the 2013 edition and are yet to make a return.
