Kryštof Šámal, head of Press in the Czech Republic’s Eurovision delegation, has revealed that the participants for the 2019 edition of their Eurovision national final, ESCZ, will be unveiled on January 7th. The announcement will take place during a press conference for the show!
An innovative selection method
ESCZ, or Eurovision Song CZ, was first used to select the Czech Republic’s Eurovision Song Contest representative for this year’s contest in Lisbon. The selection was well received by Eurovision fans with its use of an international jury and online voting which was open to international fans, although, in 2018, only votes from within the Czech Republic counted towards the final results.
It is expected that a similar voting method will remain in place for ESCZ 2019. However, this time, it is believed that online votes from international fans will count as the equivalent of one international jury member. Then, the winner is scheduled to be announced at the end of January. Last year, Mikolas Josef won both the online vote and the international jury vote in a dominant victory!
Mikolas goes from strength to strength
ESCZ 2018 was a great success for ČT, as winner Mikolas Josef gave the Czech Republic their best Eurovision finish by far. Lie to Me was one of the favourites to win the contest, finally placing 6th once in the grand final in Lisbon. Mikolas has gone from strength to strength since winning ESCZ and taking part at Eurovision, signing a record deal with Sony and releasing brand new single Me Gusta!
Which artists will take part in ESCZ 2019 with the aim of representing the Czech Republic in Tel Aviv? We can’t wait to find out… can you?

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
