KAN gains Full Membership in the EBU

In 2017, despite not having a full EBU membership, the organization has allowed the Israeli broadcaster to participate in Eurovision events until they obtain membership. A year and a half later, this has now come to fruition as the EBU has granted KAN full membership.

‘Welcome to the Family’

The EBU posted about the exciting news about KAN obtaining its full membership on their official Twitter account with a video clip, which looks into the short history of KAN, and of course, the broadcaster hosting the Eurovision Song Contest next year in Tel Aviv.

Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018

After initial reports that Israel was not going to be participating in the Eurovision Song Contest this year, the country confirmed its participation in October 2017. Once again, Israel chose The New Star to select its representative in Tel Aviv.

Israel selected Netta to be their representative and internally selected the song “Toy” for her. Netta headed into the competition as the bookies favorite to win the entire competition. In addition to this, “Toy” also became the most streamed song in Spotify Israel.

In Lisbon, Netta managed to bring Israel to the Grand Final for the fourth time, as she won her semi-final and managed to give Israel it’s fourth win, with Israel set to host the 2019 contest in Tel Aviv.

On behalf of the ESCXTRA team, we would like to congratulate KAN in gaining full membership at the EBU, and we are looking forward to heading to Tel Aviv for the Eurovision Song Contest next year.

I started watching Eurovision ever since I moved to the UK in 2006, obsessed since 2012 and haven't looked back since.
