In a tweet yesterday, French broadcaster France 2 confirmed via social media that they will be participating in Junior Eurovision 2019. The news comes a few days after the EBU confirmed that Poland will host their first Eurovision event!
France in Junior Eurovision
France initially made a debut in the second edition of Junior in 2004, coming 6th. However, despite the strong entry into the contest, they withdrew the following year taking a 14 year hiatus. At the time, the broadcaster cited low ratings and a controversial view: “too much Eurovision kills Eurovision”. However, flash forward over to 2018 and the broadcaster changed their mind!
In Minsk this year, Angélina was internally selected to represent France with the song ‘Jamais Sans Toi’. Her energetic, bubbly and brightly coloured performance came second with 203 points. The song, a fan favourite going into the contest, did especially well with the online voting coming silver behind eventual winner Poland. Furthermore, Angélina also came second in the ESCXTRA editor top 10. It seems that two is Angélina… or France’s lucky number!
