It’s time to reveal the second award winner of the ESCXTRA Awards 2018. After revealing our first winner earlier today, it’s now time to announce who has been chosen as the Best National Final of 2018. And the winner is…
Destination Eurovision, France’s new format
After two successful internal selections, France 2 decided it was time to bring back their national final. A move which required courage, as France’s last national final in 2014 resulted in a last place at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Split over three shows, Destination Eurovision became a solid name in terms of quality. A highly anticipated final with a close fought battle was expected. Lisandro Cuxi’s “Eva” was a frontrunner, but who knew what Madame Monsieur, Emmy Liyana, Malo’ or Nassi could do?
Eventually, Madame Monsieur overcame a third place with the juries to take the crown with an impressive televoting score. Émilie Satt and Jean-Karl Lucas went on to represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon. Another participant, Igit, managed to correctly predict to which country the Eurovision Song Contest would travel next with his song “Lisboa Jérusalem”.
Podium completed by Melodifestivalen and Eurovision Song CZ
France 2’s Destination Eurovision managed to win this award with 38.27% of the votes. The silver medal is for Sweden’s fan favourite national final Melodifestivalen. The podium is being completed by another newbie on the national final block: Eurovision Song CZ from the Czech Republic.
