Michael Schulte: “Eurovision fans give so much love” (Interview)

Last month we had the chance to have a little chat with Michael Schulte, who represented Germany this year in Lisbon. We talked about his Eurovision success, his amazing year and what’s next in his life. You can read the interview below or watch the video at the end of the article 🙂

“2018 was a crazy year”

Becoming a father, getting married and taking part in Eurovision all happened in one year for Michael. He isn’t sure how long he needs to realize what happened the past months as in the beginning, it wasn’t clear how many highlights would come. He enjoyed every moment, but the birth of his son was the biggest highlight of the year. Every birth is a miracle, he says.

“The Top 10 was my silent goal”

It was important for him to do his thing in Lisbon. The Top 10 were his silent goal for the final. He never mentioned it in interviews during the time in Lisbon. Another goal was to hear the magical sentence “Germany 12 points” at least once. It was a great evening for Germany.

Eurovision fans are crazy about Eurovision. They love music, life, celebrating music and Eurovision. They give so much love to the musicians and the performances. Being in the Eurovision bubble was very special for Michael and it makes you kinda addicted to Eurovision even more.

Talking about the artists for the German national final in 2019 he says, that he absolutely loves the artists who got selected for the pre-selection, but the most important part is the song. He is excited to see the show, not as a participant and without the pressure. Comparing taking part in “The Voice” to “Unser Lied” he said, that he felt a lot of pressure in the German pre-selection, because he really wanted to go to Eurovision. Performing in Lisbon was much more chilled.

Michael is now on tour. He released a new song mid-December, which was part of his selection for “Unser Lied 2018”. The song is called “The Love You Left Behind”. You can listen to the song below:

Dominik Rössing

Hey, I'm Dominik from Germany. Watched my first Eurovision in 2003 and I was in love right away! Attended my first contest in 2011 and every contest since 2013. The same happened with Melodifestivalen. Started watching in 2006 and been to every final since 2017 and try to make it to at least one heat each year, too. After all, Melodifestivalen is the real deal ♥
