Franklin and Kayati eliminated in first live show of X Factor Malta

This evening, TVM kicked off the first of four live shows that make up the final stage of X Factor Malta, the selection process to choose Malta’s representative for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. Twelve acts took to the stage but unfortunately only ten could remain. Thus, we say goodbye to Franklin Calleja and Kayati.

This is me

The theme for the first live show was This Is Me, where acts could choose any song to perform that they think best represents what artist they wish to be in the future. One contestant, Luke Chappell, even performed an original song!

Xtreme tension

Following the performances, viewers voted by SMS and the three acts with the fewest amount of votes were girlband Xtreme, Malta Eurovision Song Contest veteran Franklin Calleja and sisters Kayati. The latter received the fewest votes and were sent home automatically. Then, it was time for Franklin and Xtreme to contend the sing-off!

With only his mentor Ray Mercieca choosing to save Franklin, he was sent home after the other three judges – Ira Losco, Alexandra Alden and Howard Keith Debono – chose to save Xtreme.

  • Ben Purplle
  • Kelsey Bellante
  • Luke Chappell
  • Michela Pace
  • Nicole Frendo
  • Norbert Bondin

  • Xtreme

One of the front-runners is expected to be Michela Pace whose audition has received 100,000 views following its upload on the official X Factor Global channel late last year.

Ryan Cobb

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
