RTBF confirms: Eliot to represent Belgium in Tel Aviv

"City Lights" composer Pierre Dumoulin will write his song

Belgium’s French-speaking broadcaster RTBF confirmed this morning that The Voice of Belgium contestant Eliot will represent the country in Tel Aviv.

Who is Eliot?

18-year-old Eliot Vassamillet competed in The Voice Belgique in 2018. At his first blind audition, Eliot impressed his coach Slimane by the power, ease and sensitivity of his performance. Later he was noticed by Pierre Dumoulin, composer and leader of the Belgian group “Roscoe”, who then composed the song that Eliot will perform in May.

The moment I saw Eliot’s blind audition, I felt he had that little something extra that I look for in an artist, the sensitivity and fragility which are so necessary to convey emotion.

Before Pierre Dumoulin composed “City Lights”, Belgium’s entry at 2017 Eurovision Song Contest. He has also written songs for Bulgaria’s Eurovision 2017 representative Kristian Kostov.

Belgium in Eurovision Song Contest

Belgium achieved three top ten placements in a row from 2015 to 2017. Both Blance in 2017 and Loïc Nottet in 2015 finished fourth.

Last year the country failed to qualify to the final for the first time in four years. Sennek represented the country in Lisbon with “A Matter of Time” and placed 12th in the semifinal.

I started watching Eurovision back in 2006, when I was only 10 and couldn't stay up to see Lordi winning. I attended my first contest in 2013 in Malmö. I'm studying journalism and I love music — you will probably never see me without my headphones on.
