Sweden: Melodifestivalen 2019 stage revealed!

22 meters wide with two different settings

SVT has just published the first pictures of the Melodifestivalen 2019 stage. The 2019 stage will have both a LED screen stage and a lighting based stage. The LED has the highest resolution ever and the stage is a record-breaking 22 meters wide.

The stage is designed by stage designer Viktor Brattstörm. While usually the stage designers have to choose if they use LED screens or just lighting based stage, this year at Melodifestivalen we will get both.

Some artists go between the two stages to get two different effects in the same number.

They use Måns Zelmerlöw’s “Heroes” as an example on how both, the LED screens and the more lighting based stage, can be used in one performance.

Many new Melodifestivalen records

The stage also is the biggest we have ever seen at Melodifestivalen. Also the resolution on the screens is the highest ever. A striped fabric hangs at the back of the stage and it also becomes the largest piece of fabric in a Melodifestivalen history.

On the middle of the stage we see a ring that is over 6 meters in diameter. The ring weights about 1800 kilograms, making it the heaviest hanging element ever in Melodifestivalen history. It is equipped with powerful luminaires and LED inside.

The greenroom is placed on the right side of the stage. In the final the greenroom is moved to the parquet, as in recent years.

Melodifestivalen 2019

When Melodifestivalen premieres on February 2th, we get to see the whole stage in action. The first semifinal of the contest will take place in Gothenburg.

After six weeks of travelling through Sweden, the Melodifestivalen tour ends in Stockholm on March 9th. The winner of Melodifestivalen 2019 will represent Sweden in Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv.

I started watching Eurovision back in 2006, when I was only 10 and couldn't stay up to see Lordi winning. I attended my first contest in 2013 in Malmö. I'm studying journalism and I love music — you will probably never see me without my headphones on.
