🇱🇻 Samanta Tīna to keep similar staging in Rotterdam

Samanta Tīna, this years Eurovision Latvian representative has confirmed she will keep the staging concept from Supernova for the Rotterdam stage.

Following her national final victory, the singer gave an interview to morning show Rīta Panorāma to explain there is a lot of work to do between before the second semi-final. However, she went on to explain that in terms of visuals, the staging concept will be pretty similar in Rotterdam. Praising the strong visual appeal of the performance, she explained:

I think the performance is very full-fledged, very powerful, very non-standard Eurovision, which people in Europe are already excited about in terms of reactions and comments. There’s something more to change?

As they say, jokes aside and now they are serious work, but to a large extent, I think we won’t change anything because the performance is ready and very saturated

Supernova 2020

A total of nine acts took the stage to fight for the Latvian ticket to Rotterdam. This year, the Latvian national final Supernova saw a few format adjustments. Firstly, the semi-finals were scrapped in favour of a nine-strong final which was selected from a field of 28. Another new change this year was the voting system. The winner was determined by 100% public vote (split by televoting and online voting) – a first in the history of the Supernova format.

Samanta Tīna got massive 39.24% of the online votes. However, Samanta failed to garner such strong support with televoters, with Katrīna Dimanta gaining 34.98% of televote. Nevertheless, as shown by the scoreboard below, the average weighting between the two streams of public voting indicated Samanta convincing mandate to fly the Latvian flag in Rotterdam.

Last year, Carousel represented Latvia with the song “That Night”. Unfortunately, however, the group placed15th in the second-semi final and therefore failed to qualify for the final. This marked the third consecutive non-qualification for Latvia. The last time the Baltic nation competed in the final was back in 2016 with Justs.
