The Scoop

Saara Aalto to replace Victoria Beckham as fifth Spice Girl?

Yes, we know, that is not a headline you were expecting to see today. It’s both incredibly weird yet at the same time sounds like it would be amazing. Is Saara Aalto about to join the Spice Girls?

The Spice Girls were a worldwide sensation in the 90’s and their songs are still incredibly popular. It was originally revealed way back in 2007 that the band were intending to reunite but these plans never really kicked off. Until now.

In July last year, it was announced that the group would be reforming as a foursome, without Victoria Beckham or “Posh Spice” as she was nicknamed. Rather than just stick with four members, it looks like they may have somebody in mind to become a brand new fifth Spice Girl. That someone is Saara Aalto, Finnish representative at last year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.

The rumour started off simply as a joke in an interview with The Sun newspaper over a year ago. But, according to British tabloids it appears that it might actually end up happening. The Spice Girls have also been circulating ideas of “special guests” who will appear in concerts as temporary, one-off fifth members. This includes Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Adele. However, with Melanie C appearing as a performer in Saara Aalto’s UMK national final last year, the link is already there…

We feel rather blasphemous even suggesting that the original Spice Girls line-up may be changed almost 20 years after the band’s popularity. But, introducing Saara to the band could bring the Spice Girls to a whole new level.

I've watched Eurovision for as long as I can remember, but my interest really built in 2008, after I decided to watch the semifinals online, out of boredom, before the final...I was blown away by the quality of the show and have been hooked ever since!
